Jazz is essentially a music form which incorporates a great deal of personal musical freedom. It is about finding new melody from old, re-interpreting the familiar. Jazz has neither a set repertoire or technique - it is simply a way of looking at music with a 'different set of rules' to those of pop, rock, soul or classical.
The Jazz course provides a first approach to singing jazz with an introduction to the foundations:
- basic jazz theory
- improvising, including timing and phrasing, scat singing
- ear training: major and minor scales, jazz harmonies
- learn some classic jazz standards
- singing in different jazz styles: swing, latin, ballads and blues
- how to sing with a live band
- working with a range of jazz and standard songs, exploring the repertoire.
- development your understanding of jazz styling, phrasing and presentation.
|
Throughout the Jazz course, we will explore several approaches to finding variations, ad-libs and improvisations.
Please note that this course is not about voice or basic singing skills, but about how to apply what you can do, at whatever level you are at, in the art of Jazz.
The Jazz Course module can be taken more than once
