Looking for a starting point for serious vocal study? Wanting to sing for fun and gain knowledge about your voice?
This is the place to start. Now in it's 5th successful year.
Beginners Part A

As highly trained voice-production experts, our goal is well balanced voices that are strong, flexible, mobile and healthy. Our course is a no-nonsense approach to improving your singing by improving the way your voice operates, using exercises and group singing.

Aim: Poor vocal technique generally makes it difficult or tiring to sing. In 'Part A' we will encounter the barriers that may be hindering or weakening your voice, and begin the process of overcoming them. You will quickly understand the basics of good vocal function, and lay a solid foundation for your future enjoyment of singing.

Notes: The courses are not only an enjoyable and very effective way of learning your Vocal Foundations, they also work so well to overcome the barrier all students face: singing in front of others. By the end of Part B you will be if not nonchalant, at least developing confidence to sing in front of fellow students. From there it is a short step to singing in front of the whole school and friends at one of our Performance Parties. You can do just Part A: it will give you the basics to be going on with, but we do recommend that you carry on to the end of Part B in order to work through all the issues at foundation level. By the end of Part B we would like you to have a functioning voice, the tools to develop it further, and the courage to sing.

Part B

Part B continues from where the Part A course left off, but the smaller class size makes it a quite different experience. The focus is very firmly on you as an individual singer: You will be doing more of the exercises on your own, and each getting as much individual voice work as time will allow. This will build your understanding of your voice and firm up your foundation vocal technique.

`You will start to realise the power of the techniques we use in the course, and see the changes reflected in your voice and the voices of the others around you. This is generally a time of great excitement and rising expectations as students realise that real progress can be made and that even more persistent vocal difficulties can be understood and smoothed away. Lots of "wow I didn't think I could do that!"

You will also be building relationships in Part B that may be important to your singing in the future. Firstly you will be making friends with other singers and no doubt sharing a pint and chat in the next-door pub after one or two of the classes. For the many students who stay on at Voxbox attending various courses & classes, their Part B group is the the one they often remain attached to, and join up with later at parties and in group classes.

Getting to know Voxbox directors Leon or Lucy is great as you will be meeting them again in later groups and perhaps lessons. They will always be interested in your progress, and they will understand your vocal issues. During the course you will also be working on your singing skills, developing a song project for presentation at the end. Plus some class singing, and maybe even a spot of harmony singing, time permitting.
